With the upgrade of health-conscious consumption, coarse grains have become a new favorite on dining tables, and vacuum packaging is the key to preserving their quality. Under traditional packaging, coarse grains are prone to oxidative rancidity due to oxygen and moisture exposure, and often suffer from pest infestation, leading to a circulation loss rate as high as 12%. By extracting air from the packaging bags, vacuum packaging fundamentally resolves these issues. It not only extends the shelf life of coarse grains by 3–5 times, but also drives the industry's upgrade from extensive storage to refined freshness preservation, making it a standard packaging method for high-quality coarse grains.
The fresh-keeping magic of vacuum packaging lies in its core function of isolating external interference. Coarse grains are rich in unsaturated fatty acids and active nutrients, which tend to cause flavor deterioration and nutrient loss when exposed to oxygen. A vacuum environment can significantly reduce the occurrence of oxidation reactions, while inhibiting mold growth and egg hatching. Data shows that after 12 months of room-temperature storage, vacuum-packaged oats retain a much higher level of vitamin E than those in regular packaging, with the risk of peroxide value exceeding the standard also significantly reduced.

High-quality packaging materials serve as the fundamental guarantee for vacuum freshness preservation. Food-grade PA/PE composite films are the mainstream choice in the industry. This multi-layer structure boasts excellent oxygen and moisture barrier properties, with an oxygen transmission rate of less than 30cm³/m²·24h·0.1MPa. When purchasing, it is essential to look for food-grade labels to avoid industrial-grade packaging. Meanwhile, attention should be paid to sealing performance: high-quality packages feature flat, bubble-free seals that effectively prevent air leakage and failure, which is also an important criterion for distinguishing superior products from inferior ones.
Proper use and storage can maximize the value of vacuum packaging. Before opening, packages should be stored in a cool, dry place, avoiding direct sunlight and heavy pressure that may cause package damage. After opening, the grains should be resealed promptly or transferred to airtight containers. It should be noted that vacuum packaging is not a one-size-fits-all fresh-keeping solution-if the moisture content of the coarse grains themselves exceeds the standard, spoilage may still occur. Therefore, consumers need to make a comprehensive judgment based on both the production date and product appearance when making purchases.
