Vacuum Packaging for Granular Materials

Vacuum packaging serves as a core guarantee technology for the storage and transportation of granular materials. Its core value lies in extracting oxygen and moisture from the package to create an airtight protective environment, fundamentally addressing the pain points of granular materials such as moisture absorption, oxidation, and mold growth. For food granules like rice and nuts, it can extend the shelf life by 3–5 times; for special materials such as pharmaceutical granules and chemical raw materials, it can maintain component stability and avoid contamination risks. It is thus an indispensable packaging method in the food, pharmaceutical, chemical, and other industries.

The application scenarios of vacuum packaging for granular materials are extremely extensive, covering multiple livelihood and industrial fields. In the food industry, miscellaneous grains, pet food, and roasted seeds and nuts all rely on it for freshness retention; in the pharmaceutical field, granular instant medicines and Chinese herbal pieces ensure their efficacy through vacuum packaging; in the chemical industry, plastic granules and fertilizer granules are protected from moisture and caking via this technology. Different scenarios impose distinct packaging requirements: for instance, food-grade materials must meet relevant standards, while the pharmaceutical sector emphasizes sterile sealing.

Vacuum packaging of granular materials needs to balance adaptability and precision. Material characteristics determine the packaging scheme: for example, brittle granules (such as puffed food) require low-vibration filling technology to prevent breakage, and ultra-fine granules need to be equipped with dust removal systems to reduce pollution. The core of the technology lies in two aspects: first, the high barrier property of packaging materials, with aluminum foil composite films commonly used to achieve a residual oxygen rate of ≤ 0.1%; second, the accuracy of metering and sealing-intelligent equipment can control the metering error within ± 0.2%, and double-channel heat sealing ensures airtightness.

The industry is currently moving towards intelligent and green transformation. Fully automatic vacuum packaging machines realize unmanned operation from bag taking, filling to sealing, increasing production capacity by more than 4 times; the replacement of traditional plastics with environmentally friendly materials has become a trend, and the application of degradable composite films is gradually popularized. With the upgrading of consumption and optimization of supply chains, vacuum packaging will pay more attention to personalized adaptation and full-life-cycle environmental protection, empowering the upgrading of the granular material industry.
